Beach in Nags Head, Wanchese and Town of Manteo

The Timothy O. Tillett Homeplace is the perfect location central to many activities, but peaceful and off the beaten path of beach traffic. We are located 7 miles from the Nags Head beachfront and other beach attractions.

The Homeplace is located in the fishing village of Wanchese at the southernmost point of Historic Roanoke Island. It is the perfect balance of historic charm and comfort of a fishing village. Explore fine seafood restaurants like Great Gut Deli at Thicket Lump and marinas including Thicket Lump Marina, Wanchese Marina, OBX Marina and the OBX Tackle and Ships Store. There are several fish packing facilities that harvest and pack fresh fish from boats to docks in the village.

Boat building in Wanchese is known world-wide for the design and manufacture of sport fishing boats and yachts. The newest facilities are located in the Wanchese Marine Industrial Park.

Explore fresh fish markets like O'Neals Seafood and arrange to purchase for takeout or send home the best seafood caught right off the shores of the Outer Banks. Book a sailing tour, dolphin tour or arrange to go deep sea fishing aboard one the world famous off-shore sport fishing boats. Book a dolphin tour right at the Wanchese dock.


Visit the Historic Town of Manteo located just 4 miles north of Wanchese. Explore the waterfront shops, art galleries, historic homes and cottages. See the spectacular waterfront marina filled with seafaring travelers from over the United States.

Visit the Historic Dare County Courthouse, Home of the Dare County Arts Counsel.

See the sights at Roanoke Island Festival Park and go aboard the Elizabeth II, a replica of the 16th century sailing vessel that brought the first English Colonist to the New World. Experience the north end of Roanoke Island by bicycle or walking trail, 7 miles in length meanders to the contiguous historic attractions, Elizabeth Gardens Historic Site, The Lost Colony Historic Site, Home of the The Lost Colony, the long standing outdoor drama at Waterside Theater celebrating its 78th Season in 2015, the North Carolina Aquarium, Island Farm and the Outer Banks Visitor's Bureau. Visit the Roanoke Island Baptist Church known to be the second oldest Baptist Church in North Carolina Circa 1808, just off the walking trail at US 64 and Airport Road.

 

Corolla Wild Horse Tour is a two hour tour by jeep traversing several refuge areas and sanctuary sites where you will see a variety of shore birds, other wildlife and our Colonial Spanish Mustangs.
